The paper consists of four pages: the first two pages are the explanations of the work by several scientists, and the second two pages contain the mRNA sequence of Modena’s covid-19 vaccine.

Several scientists said that with the promotion of vaccines, these sequences began to appear in many different investigations and diagnostic studies. Knowing these sequences and being able to distinguish them from other RNAs is very useful for analyzing future biomedical data sets. Specifically, it can help researchers or clinicians quickly determine that the sequence is a therapeutic mRNA rather than a host or infection source in the process of sequencing.

The research team also said that they did not reverse engineer the vaccine, but “announced the hypothetical sequences of two synthetic RNA molecules, which have become very common in the medical and human biological environment in 2021.”.

They said that after the release of the file, “anyone who is interested” can conduct data mining and filtering on the basis of this sequence. Researchers can obtain the sequence as quickly as possible without guessing its source, which contains huge economic value and educational value.

Before uploading the file to GitHub, the researchers contacted Modena, but they did not respond or object to their publication.

Maybe it’s not a big deal for Modena. After all, there are still thousands of miles between getting the sequence and making the vaccine.

In the United States, some lawmakers are calling for a suspension of patent protection for the new vaccine to ensure that more people are vaccinated as soon as possible. But Scott Gottlieb, a former FDA member and Pfizer board member, believes that the real bottleneck of vaccination is mainly supply and production, not intellectual property restrictions.

According to CNBC, the White House is still considering whether to adopt legislators’ proposal to suspend patent protection.
