In the development process, the most commonly used system is estimated to be Linux. This is an open source system with many distributions. The advantage of open source system is that most of them are free and easy to update and maintain, so they are favored by most programmers.
Today, I’d like to introduce how to install Ubuntu 20.04 on VMware.
My computer is windows 10 home edition, and all operations are carried out on this system.
The image file of ubuntu20.04 can be found on the open source software image station of Tsinghua University. The website supports IPv6 access and can achieve high access speed and download speed.
The website is here: https://mirrors.tuna.tsinghua.edu.cn/ 。
After entering, first click “get download link” on the right.
Then you can find various versions of Ubuntu by selecting Ubuntu on the pop-up interface. Here, we select “20.04.1 (AMD64, desktop Live DVD)” and directly click the link to download it.
As for the download of vmware workstation software, there are many resources on Baidu, which will not be repeated here.
We open the software, click “file” – > “new virtual machine”, or directly through the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + n” to create a new virtual machine.
Select the “custom (Advanced)” option and click next to start creating a new virtual machine.
This interface is the interface for selecting hardware compatibility. You can click next without processing.
Then, select the option “install operating system later” to provide more operability.
Next, set the operating system type of the virtual machine, select “Linux”, and select “Ubuntu 64 bit” below.
Then set the name of the virtual machine and the location of the virtual machine. You can name and select the location of the virtual machine according to your own preferences.
Then select the number of CPU cores assigned to the virtual machine, and configure it according to your own computer. It is recommended that the number of CPU cores of the physical machine be as close as possible, but not more than. My computer is a 6-core 12 thread CPU. Here I choose to allocate the processing power of 4 cores and 8 threads to my virtual machine.
Next, set the amount of memory allocated to the virtual machine. If your physical memory is 8g, it is recommended to allocate 4G of memory to the virtual machine. If your physical machine has more memory, it is recommended to allocate 8g of memory to the virtual machine. It is not necessary to allocate too much memory.
For the next four steps, follow the default configuration and click “next” directly.
Then set the size of the allocated hard disk, generally 50g, which can be adjusted according to the actual situation of your computer. At the same time, select Save virtual disk as a single file to improve disk performance.
Then set the file name of the disk file, which is not changed.
Then, check whether the settings are correct and click “finish” to install the virtual machine.
After the configuration is complete, we need to set up the virtual machine further. Click “Edit virtual machine settings” to set.
Set up the virtualization of the processor first.
Then set the location of the ubuntu20.04 image to install Ubuntu on the virtual machine.
Finally, set the startup mode of the virtual machine.
After completing this series of settings, you can open the virtual machine to install the system. The installation process of the system is very simple, just click “next” according to the prompt. After that, you can enjoy the installation.
