- Is heat dissipation required?
In the actual network test, the 4 bare board of raspberry pie will soon reach the upper temperature limit of raspberry pie of about 83 degrees under heavy use. After reaching this temperature, it will trigger the raspberry pie protection mechanism and actively limit the frequency of CPU to 600MHz, which will greatly affect the use of raspberry pie. Of course, it may have some irreversible impact on CPU, so I won’t do destructive test here.
- How should I dissipate heat?
This question will be answered by the whole evaluation.
I looked up some information and found that few of them summarized and evaluated raspberry pie shells. During this time, I spent a lot of money to buy several shells at one go and experienced and tested them respectively. Now I share the evaluation experience and results with you. I don’t say much, just go to the figure above

- Shell 4 aluminum alloy shell, heat dissipation mode: pure passive heat dissipation
It can be seen that when the four CPUs run to 100% in the pressure test, the temperature can still be stabilized at about 67 degrees by relying solely on passive heat dissipation
- Shell 5 aluminum alloy shell + fan, heat dissipation mode: passive + active heat dissipation
It can be seen that when the four CPUs in the stress test run to 100%, the temperature can still be stabilized at about 54 degrees, and the main frequency of the CPU remains unchanged at 1.5GHz
- Several other active cooling + heat sink can basically be stable at about 62 degrees, so we can see the advantages of active cooling. However, according to the test results, fan + ordinary heat sink can fully meet the use in extreme cases. As for tower cooling on the Internet, it is not tested here. It is basically unnecessary for daily use.
